Harold Dean Woody, 79, passed away suddenly Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Virginia.

Harold Dean Woody was born March 21, 1942 in Bastian, Virginia the son of James Floyd and Bonnie Novella (Gwyn) Woody.

Dean had been employed with Knowling Brothers Excavating and Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

He loved music, playing lead guitar in the Band of the Offbeats and then in the Dean Woody Band for 45 plus years. He was an avid golfer playing in leagues and tournaments.

He is survived by his long time partner Paula Ely of Wytheville, VA, two children: Bryan (Tammy) Woody of West Branch and Melissa (Todd) Stoolman of West Branch. Grandchildren: Samantha (Justin) Clark of Illinois, Kassie (Tyler) Bailey of West Branch, Morgan Stoolman of West Branch, Cash Woody of West Branch, and Holly Woody of West Branch, two great grandsons: Micah and Luca Bailey of West Branch. Also surviving is two brothers: Gilmer Woody of Iowa City, Ronald Croy of Cedar Rapids, two sisters: Willie Sue Wolfe of Virginia and Adina Croy of Virginia as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Roger Lee Woody, James Woody, two sisters: Doris Connell and Pauletta Broyles.
