Ruth Pauline Steen, daughter of George and Mary (Melick) Steen, was born April 15, 1925 on a farm near West Liberty, Iowa. Pauline was a 1942 graduate of West Liberty High School and went on to study business in Davenport, Iowa. She worked as a legal secretary for attorney Robert Brooke in West Liberty prior to her marriage. Pauline married Leland Waters on September 1, 1949 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union three sons were born, George, Lyle and Glen. Pauline worked on the family farm with her husband, performing every work aspect on the grain and livestock operation. Pauline drove tractors, worked with animals and planted a large garden every year. She always served amazing meals, did the dishes and went right back outside to work on the farm. Her work ethic was exceeded by no one. She enjoyed the outdoors and loved working with her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were very important in her life.
Pauline was an active member of the West Branch United Methodist Church and a lifelong member of Eastern Star. She enjoyed gathering with her friends and neighbors at the Downey Sew and So Club meetings and their jovial birthday celebrations!
Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Leland; her parents; her beloved sister, Ethel Bein. She leaves behind three sons, George (Teresa) Waters, West Branch, Lyle (Mary) Waters, Muscatine, and Glen (Lori) Waters, West Branch; six grandchildren, Kilee (Travis) Spratt, Brent Waters, Gabe (Stacy) Waters, Vince (Bethany Fischer) Waters, Ashley Waters, Anna (Travis Dimmer) Waters; six great grandchildren, Jordan, Cameron, Brooklyn and Drake Waters, Whitney and Ellie Spratt.
