I worked with Deac for years at the university and he was a good friend and a fine man. Deac was an example of how to live a life - always active, always involved, always on his way somewhere. I'll never forget the many laughs we had together and will miss him a lot. My sympathy to the family.

I worked with Don for several years at the UIHC. He was always in good spirits and was a reliable, steady guy. Through the years we had great conversations and many, many laughs. I am grateful that I knew him and was honored to be his friend.

Deac, Oh, how I hate to let you go. You were the Tribe Leader of all the Nealson cousins. You were so good to keep in touch with all of us and not let anyone go unnoticed or forgotten. I still can't believe you are gone and I am so grateful I got to tell you goodbye my dear friend and cousin. You supported us so here in the South and I will always love you for that.
I have fond memories of last March when you were here and we drove all over central Texas seeing all the sights. You were a real trooper and made it so much fun.
I will love you always,
Kathy

Dear Deac,
We sure will miss you. Growing up we had two favorite cousins to look up to, you and Joyce. You taught us a sense of loyalty to family, duty to Country and Community and how to live life and enjoy the journey. I can still see you milking the cows and squirting the milk at the cats while they lapped it up! And how special you made the young cousins feel when you & Russ danced with us at the WL Fair. Then as we got older there were the adult times we shared & enjoyed. I loved to visit you, Hanne and the baby Allison, the apple of your eye. As life progressed there were many changes but our love & respect of you never changed. Buck will miss your excursions through the country and I will miss our pastries & coffee. So goodbye until that day when we meet again in a better place, Love & Tears, Jude

To the family of "Deacon" I want to excpress my sincere sympathy at Deac's passing.
I have been away for West Liberty for several years, but I seemed to get to see Deacon on my return visits & was glad to visit a catch up a little. I was honored to know Deac and call him a friend. A man that was good for West Liberty.

Deac was a great friend and I always looked forward to seeing him when I would travel back to Iowa from Colorado. He was always full of stories and jokes and his laugh was infectious. He will be missed this summer during the town celebration. I'm sure he and Rusty Brotherton are telling tales and laughing like crazy about now.

The McIntosh family always enjoyed a pretty good story involving Deac and my father-in-law, Fedale. It got even better after we moved to West Liberty and we heard "the rest of the story." Deac was a big presence in West Liberty and will be missed.

So sorry for your loss. I know this is a very difficult time for the family. Something that has always given me comfort is a scripture at Revelation 21:4, it says, "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” I sincerely hope this brings you some comfort.

I am so sorry to hear of Deac's passing. He is one of the sweetest men I've had the honor of meeting. He always had a kind word, a nice smile and often times a joke to share. I will miss seeing him after Wed night Legion meetings when he'd stop at JBs for a Diet Pepsi. He is truly one of the greatest and will be missed by many!!

I am Bill Cihak from Creston, Iowa I am unable to attend Don's services due to recent surgery. I met Don Cain in 1955 when we were in the Air Force. We were in a chow line in Chateroux, France. We have been best friends ever since. We have many stories about our three years in France. Some I could not tell you. After we got out of the Air Force we kept in close touch visiting each other, going on trips and of course attending Iowa football games. We enjoyed getting together and talking about our experiences. I did not have a brother and Don was like a brother to me. He was fun, a good listener and a loyal friend. I feel very blessed to have had Don Cain in my life. I will miss him so very much but I will cherish our memories.
