Dr. Steven F. Palmer, 68, of West Liberty, died Monday, December 19, 2011 at Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty.
A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00PM on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Private family services will held at a later date.
Steve was born on July 27, 1943 in Iowa City, the son of Dr. Howard and Lucille Hughes Palmer. He graduated from West Liberty High School in 1961. He attended Iowa State University where he received a B.S. He later went to the University of Wisconsin where he earned a masters degree in veterinary science. He then went on to receive his medical degree at the University of Iowa. He was united in marriage to Clare Knoblauch on December 23, 1968 in Ashland, WI. He joined in medical practice with his father in 1976 and went on to practice in West Liberty for 23 years.
Steve enjoyed living in West Liberty and took pride in it's diverse community. He had a love of the outdoors, camping with his family and spending time at his home planting trees. Education was important to Steve and he attended various classes even in retirement.
He is survived by his wife Clare of West Liberty, IA, son Ben (Miranda) Palmer of West Branch, IA, daughters, Jess (Jamie) Gisi of Le Claire, IA and Anne (Kelly) Miles of Dallas Center, IA, brothers, Dr. Michael (Alice) Palmer of Chambersburg, PA and Rex (Terry) Palmer of Chicago,IL and grandchildren, Simon, Oliver and August Palmer, Lincoln, Veda and Howard Gisi and Roscoe Miles.
