Dear Becky and Trey, David and I are so very sorry for your loss. It is huge. James is a continuous person in our periphery here on Marston Avenue. His kindness and good humor always made our day. We loved to chat with him and he loved to chat with us about everything under the sun. There was always something to say, because he was so full of good life. We will miss him dearly.
Our dogs Arrow and Tasha loved James as well. He would give away Milkbone treats to Tasha. She actually dislikes Milkbone treats and will not take them from me, but James would accompany the treats with scratches and cooing and she devoured every treat he gave her. When I think of James I always smile in my heart with gratitude for the good, kind, sweet example he was here in our neighborhood. "The true man trusts in a strength which is not his, and which he does not feel, does not even always desire; believes in a power that seems far from him, which is yet at the root of his fatigue itself and his need of rest....God is strong; to seek from him who is our life, as the natural, simple cure of all that is amiss with us, power to do, and be, and live, even when we are weary, - this is the victory that overcomes the world...Thanks be to him who perfects strength in weakness, and gives to his beloved while they sleep!" ~ from Unspoken Sermons by George Macdonald
Sincerely with Much Love, Janie

Becky and Trey,
I am so sorry to hear of James' death. Our neighborhood won't be the same without him. I'll never forget the little details that made him such a kind and generous soul. He would collect the toys from Happy Meals and give a bagful to my kids, or dole out candy he got on sale. We talked about our shared family military history; books and movies; how proud he was of Trey becoming an engineer; life in general. He always had a milk bone (or two!) ready for Murray. I will really miss him. My thoughts are with you both as you face this devastating loss.
