West Liberty, Iowa Jose Gabriel Martinez, 58, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 6 P.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, West Liberty. Due to the current State of Iowa restrictions on social gatherings the funeral home will assist with family and friends entering the church to comply with current regulations. Family mass will be held Saturday at the Church. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty. Jose was born February 25, 1962 in Ingnacio,Allende, Durango Mexico. In 1989 he was united in marriage to Aurelia Montelongo in Durango. He had been employed with HWH, Schenker and most recently Proctor and Gamble. Jose loved to dance, music, traveling with family, family cookouts, boxing nights at home, playtime with his granddaughter. He also enjoyed classic cars, watching sports, Sunday night football, soccer games, Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Cubs were his favorite teams. Survivors include his wife Aurelia of West Liberty. Children: Omar Martinez, Evelyn Martinez, Leslie Martinez and Gabriel Martinez all of West Liberty and granddaughter Maia.
