West Liberty, Iowa
Zelma Mary Burr, age 101, died May 4th 2018 at Lone Tree Care Center after a kind and generous life.
Funeral mass will be held 10 A.M. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Liberty. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 P.M. at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com. Zelma was born September 27th, 1916 in Riverside Iowa to parents Mary Heitzman Schnoebelen and Theodore George Schnoebelen. The eldest of nine children, Zelma attended school at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Riverside. She was united in marriage to Lorren Kenneth Burr on February 2, 1940 and they made their home in rural Johnson County. To them were born five daughters.
Zelma made a loving home while being active civically and in her church. Zelma’s devotion to her family led her to many hours supporting her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren – whether it be in 4-H, sports, music or plays. An accomplished seamstress, she could hand stitch an heirloom quilt, create a prom dress, design Halloween outfits or patch Lorren’s overalls all with ease.
Zelma will be remembered lovingly by her five daughters Barbara (Larry) Wise, Virginia Miehe, Donna (Jerry) Kaalberg, Phyllis (Michael) Selby and Rhonda (Kevin) Case. Also surviving are four sisters Delores Kempf, Dorothy Johnson, Frances Self and Anita Mehaffey, seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband Lorren Burr, son-in-law Douglas Miehe, great granddaughter Kylen Miehe, brothers Alvin, Herb, Verne and sister Colletta.
