Jim and Bill,
So sorry to hear of your dear mother's death. She was one of my very favorite people and I felt honored to have her as my aunt. She is my last aunt to die and I know my Mom is thrilled to welcome her into Heaven, their new home!
I had the wonderful opportunity to stop by Bickford a few months ago to visit her. She appeared to be doing very well there and had such a positive sweet attitude about her life. She was dusting the whole place in her spare time. She was always a meticulous housekeeper.
Just know that you are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
She left a wonderful imprint on my heart.
Love,
Sharon (your cousin)

May I express my condolences to you. I was a young priest just starting at St. Paul the Apostle, where Rachel served as a much loved employee. She was a whirlwind of activity at the rectory, arriving early and barely stopping for breath. But she always had time for a good laugh and share the "Catholic news" of what was happening at other churches! I am so glad that I got to know her those many years ago (37, to be exact).
God bless you, and may she enjoy her heavenly reward!
Sincerely,
Msgr. James Parizek

My Aunt Rachel had the best laugh in the world and maybe that is because she used it a lot. She was one of the most positive people I have ever know.
One funny story was a family vacation that Rachel and my mother (Joyce Lybarger) took us on to Louisville, KY. They loaded up Bill, Jim, my sister Nancy and me in our car and we drove. It was hot summertime and it was before cars had airconditioning. All of us kids had to take turns sitting near the open windows. We did all sorts of things on this trip, but I will never forget that we went through Great Mammouth Caves and also that we got lost for a whole, entire day, driving in a giant circle.
We ended up having a terrific time, but we had to return to Iowa rather than extend the vacation, because Rachel had 10 day pickles and she needed to get home to can them.
To me, Rachel was always the same, always delighted to see you, always ready to feed you, always smiling. That is the way I will remember her. A great lady has touched our lives and I am sad for her leaving, but know that she has gone on to a better place.

As I sit here to write a message, my heart is full of love for my Aunt Rachel. Her wonderful smile and cheerfulness was unique to her.
As a young child going to the farm was a wonderful day. I got to see my Aunt Rachel and Uncle Bill, spend endless hours pumping water outside, roam the big barns and wander thru the woods, all still so beautiful in my mind.
Aunt Rachel was a "Blue Ribbon" cook, always having a picnic or gathering. Her gardens were so labor intensive too. All of her efforts were delicious and her roses and flowers so beautiful. I was very blessed to grow up in the midwest surrounded by hardworking, wholesome, wonderful folks.
My Aunt Rachel came from strong stock, she and all her family were hard workers, but somehow, she never complained and made hard work appear easy. In all perhaps that is what kept Rachel going, her willingness to gie of herself to her family, the earth and to God.
