A. JoAnn Mason, 88, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at the
Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty.
A memorial visitation will be held 2 to 5 P.M. Sunday, December 3, 2017 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Private family burial will be held 11 A.M. Monday, December 4, 2017 in the Downey Cemetery, rural West Branch. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com. A memorial fund has been established.
Avril JoAnn was born July 12, 1929 in Melcher, Iowa the daughter of William and Mabel Timpey Chivers. She was a graduate of Orion, IL High School in the Class of 1947. On October 29, 1950 she was united in marriage to Leighton Passmore at the Methodist Church in Orion, they later divorced.
She had been employed at John Deere in Moline and for most of her life she worked as a waitress at numerous restaurants; Coffeetown, Cookie, Jar, Highlander and Ironman. Joann enjoyed sewing, quilted many lap blankets for Veterans at the VA Hospital and knitted caps for newborns at Mercy Hospital. She had a heart of gold and was always wanting to do things for others. She especially found it important at Christmas time to select 6 girls names from an angel tree to purchase gifts, as well as sew and bake them something to make their holiday special. She was a member of the Moose Lodge.
Joann is survived by four daughters: Shelley Hadley of North Liberty, Sharon (Bill) Mitchell of Downey, Sharla (Stan) Moore of Fairfax, Iowa and Stacey Passmore of Atalissa. 7 grandchildren: Stephanie Hadley Ayers, Jason Moore, Sonya Emmart, Benjamin Mitchell, Shelby (Matt) Gibbs, Sheridan Moore and Jackson Passmore Hesseltine, 3 great grandchildren: Jordan Ayers, Corbin and Nelson Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jack, daughters Sue Moore and Sandy Reinhardt, grandson Cameron Wayne Hadley and a great granddaughter Leighton Sue Moore.
