West Branch, Iowa Fred A. Michael, 90, of West Branch, died Monday, April 27, 2009 at Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Tipton. Services will be 10:00AM on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Visitation will be 3:00-7:00PM on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. A memorial fund has been established. Fred was born August 29, 1918 in Johnson County, the son of Fred H. and Helen Schmidt Michael. He was united in marriage to Gertrude Lucille Bush on October 12, 1943 in Iowa City. He first farmed in Johnson County then in the West Branch area after moving there in 1951. He also worked at the University of Iowa Hospital for 13 years from 1971-1983. Fred enjoyed hunting and fishing, and farming with his old John Deere tractors. He is survived by his children: Helen (Fred) Loeb of Coralville; Jim (Mary) Michael of Waunakee, WI; Fred (Belinda) Michael of Iowa City; Jerry Michael of West Branch and Larry (Sandy Sexton) Michael of West Branch. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife: Gertrude, and daughter-in-law: Bobbi Michael.
