We were sorry to hear about Betty. Both of us wish we could have been here to participate in the Eastern Star Service.
Our family benefited from her service to the community and we both enjoyed her friendship for many years.

May you find comfort in knowing your Mother was loved by many. She will never be forgotten by those who loved and knew her. May you also find comfort in knowing she has now rejoined other's she has loved and missed over the years. Losing a parent is difficult, losing your last living parent is even more so. You are in our thoughts and prayers Joe, as well as all your family.

Betty holds dear memories in our hearts. She installed Korey and I as Worthy Matron and Patron in Mason City in 1985. I grew up knowing Batty & Ralph and consider her a true lady and friend. The world will miss this wonderful lady.

Joe, JoAnn & Family,
I am truly sorry to hear of Betty's death. Betty was more than just a friend; she was an amazing lady. I will treasure the time I spent at Ralph & Betty's glorious house learning to bake those perfect chocolate chip cookies and how important it is to do for others first. What great neighbors they were to my grandparents.
Her passing will not only leave a void in our lives, but in the hearts of everyone who knew her. West Liberty has lost a civic angel. Betty's memory will always remain deep within my heart.
With love and much sympathy,
Kari

My thoughts and prayers are with your family. I worked with Betty 20 years ago when I was with the Commission on Aging. Betty always cared about people. I remember her providing food baskets, organizing clothing donations and even orchestrating donations of furniture when someone was in need. I also remember that every Thursday she dusted her baseboards! After a life of giving to others, she is home in heaven!

Betty was a good friend to me. She held my bridal shower when I was to be married to my second husband, Rick Hines, now divorced 19 years, but at the time in 1986, happiness ruled. I have known Betty for many years and Ralph too when he was alive. I found him to be a rough, no nonsense individual, but Betty was a gem of a person. She was the one who showed kindness needed at times when others needed consoling; she was there to lend a helping hand, shoulder and a smile to bring you back on an even keel instead of staying depressed. She was one of my favorite people, and although I hadn't been to see her in recent years, there is still a fond place in my heart for her. She was a "pillar" in this community and will be missed by one and all. My sincere sympathy, for her family's loss of their matriarch, goes out to her son Joe, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. They had her for a little while physically, but will be with them forever in memory. She was my friend and I will miss her.

Joe,JoAnne and family, I can not remember when the Akers family was not in my life..It is like your family is my extended family and Betty and Ralph were my "special" aunt and uncle. She had helped me so much through out my life,as you all did, when I was a child and even as a adult.I loved her and she will be oh so missed. Even though I do not get back to West Liberty often you are all thought of often and you will all be in my prayers during this time of sorrow.

So sorry about your loss. Betty was a real lady! Kind, caring and a true friend to so many. Always a hello. I will always remember her with her high heels and fur coat! Loved talking to her with her when she still came in to Jans. She was so nice and kind to all the kids at the library.
