RONALD KEITH CHRISTY, 73 of West Liberty, IA and Donna, TX went to be with the Lord March 16, 2009, when he died from injuries in a bus accident near Zacatecas, Mexico.
Memorial services will be held 2:30 P.M. Sunday March 22, 2009 at the First Church United in West Liberty. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com. Burial will be held at a later time in the Klein Cemetery, rural Moscow. A memorial fund has been established.
Ron was born in Davis County, IA on July 10, 1935 to Harry and Naomi (Strickland) Christy. He attended Grandview High School.
He was the owner of Christy’s DX on Mulberry in Muscatine, Iowa, worked at HON Industries until he retired and started doing what he loved, traveling with his wife, Margaret Christy. Ron was involved with the Masonic Temple in Muscatine in the Masonic Lodge, Order of Eastern Star, DeMolay Advisor and helped with Rainbow Girls. Ron was a Boy Scout Leader, Little League Coach, Member of the Sherriff’s Patrol for Muscatine County, an avid Stock Car Racing Fan, and a wonderful and devoted husband and father to his family.
In the time Ron was married to Norma Shew in 1954 they had 5 children, Pamela (Thomas Scott) Fordyce of Altoona, Ronda Spilger of Iowa City, Marsha (Timothy) Furlong of Robins, Rodney (Ronda) Christy West Liberty and Mark (Diane) Christy of Springdale, Arkansas also 13 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren . In 1982 Ron married Margaret Goody O’Donnell and her children from her previous marriage which includes, Dennis O’Donnell of Marengo, Dan O’Donnell of West Liberty, Deanna (Booie) O’Donnell and David O’Donnell Wellman. With the addition of the O’Donnell family, Ron became a loving father of 9 children.
Ron is preceeded in death by his parents, Brother Glen (Tuck) Dean Christy, step-daughter Booie O’Donnell, Granddaughter Hope Cochran, and Grandson Matthew O’Donnell.
