West Branch, Iowa Marilyn Joan Gruwell Marshall, 79, died Friday, December 6, 2013 at Canyonlands Care Center in Moab, Utah. Funeral service will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the West Branch United Methodist Church with visitation 1 hour prior to services. Burial will be in the West Branch Cemetery. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Marilyn was born March 14, 1934 near Springdale, Iowa the daughter of Francis and Freda Pedersen Gruwell. She was a graduate of Springdale High School in 1951 and attended the Burlington Beauty Academy. She was united in marriage to Leonard Marshall and together they raised their three children in Southern California. Marilyn was a USC graduate of the School of Nursing in 1984 and worked as a Registered Nurse until her retirement. Survivors include her three children: Deborah Bakke of Covina, CA, Jesse Marshall and his wife Kristi Jensen Marshall of Moab, UT, and John Marshall and his girl friend Melissa Nerone of Moab, UT. Five grandchildren: Michael Bakke, Crystina Bakke, Danika Bakke, Jesse Marshall Jr. and Jamie Marshall as well as 5 great grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister Leone “Polly” Maher of West Branch and Brother Robert (Reta) Gruwell of Springdale, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Thelma Gruwell Sterner Baysinger, Brothers Edward Gruwell, Eugene Gruwell and Ronald Gruwell.
