Alfred James “Bud” Carter Jr., 84, died Monday November 11, 2013 at his home in West Liberty.
A memorial service will be held 10:30 A.M. Friday November 15, 2013 at the First Church United in West Liberty. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty. A memorial fund has been established. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com.
Bud was born June 3, 1929 in West Liberty the son of Alfred and Gladys Watkins Carter. He was a graduate of West Liberty High School. On June 22, 1962 he was united in marriage to Mary Patterson Hudson.
He was a skilled tool and die maker worker for Schmarje in Muscatine, G.E. and Oral B in Iowa City. He enjoyed his time with family at his cabin on the Cedar river fishing and boating. He was a handyman and was always tinkering with something; auto mechanics and putting together and fixing computers.
He is survived by four step children: Sherry Hudson Grable (Wayne Hartwig) of Solon, Iowa Terry (Ramonne) Hudson of Davie, Florida, Robert (Mary) Hudson of Fairfax, Iowa and James Hudson of Iowa City. 4 grandchildren: Heather (Ray) Carrizales, Marcy (Kurt) Weber, Eric Hudson and Sonia Hudson. 6 great grandchildren: Maya, Cole, Ava and Cade Carrizales and Whitney and Kalli Weber. Brother: Robert (Dorothy) Carter of Melbourne, Florida, Sister Donna (Wendell) Johnson of Springfield, Missouri and brother in law Rex Swails of Coralville. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary in October 2012 and sister Jean Swails.
