Enid Bell Simmons, 88, died Thursday September 2, 2010 at the Crestview Care and Rehab Center in West Branch following a fall at home in which she broke her hip.
Funeral service will be held 1:30 P.M. Wednesday September 8, 2010 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memory Garden Cemetery, Iowa City. A memorial fund has been established.
Enid was born October 14, 1921 in Kirksville, Missouri the daughter of Claudie Merl and Ollie Dudley Bragg. On January 8, 1941 she was united in marriage to Alfred Joshua Simmons in Kirksville.
Enid lived in Adair County, Missouri until 1955 when she and her family moved to Downey, Iowa. She lived in the same house in Downey from the time they moved until her death, over 55 years. She enjoyed her family, her huge vegetable gardens, and listening to country music.
She had been employed with Pioneer Corn Plant in Downey, Louis Rich Foods in West Liberty and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics as a custodian until her retirement.
She is survived by her daughter Twyla Salisbury of West Branch. Three grandchildren: Shelly (Brett) Alston of West Branch, Travis (Jennifer) Simmons of Tiffin, Royce (Shawna) Simmons of Hills and eight great grandchildren: Logan Alston, Felicia, Samantha and Travis Simmons Jr, Amelia, Ellen, Jared and O’rion Simmons. She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband Alfred in 2003, son Bobby in 1995 a sister and a brother.
