Russell W. Bickford, 93, died Wednesday July 28, 2010 at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty.
Family services will be held Saturday at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty.
Russell was born December 8, 1916 in Nicollet County, Oshawa, Minnesota the son of Jacob and Maude Estes Bickford. On February 23, 1938 he was united in marriage to Grace Mussig in Davenport, they were married for 70 years before her death March 6, 2008. He had worked on the railroad for 43 years as a section worker. He enjoyed traveling and going to the riverboat.
Survivors include three children: Russell (Carolyn) Bickford Jr. of Iowa City, Frances (Robert) Whetstine of Diamond Head, Mississippi and Terry Bickford of West Liberty. Five grandchildren: Mark Whetstine, Denise Nelson, Deanne Bickford, Duane Bickford and Everett Burnett. Two great grandchildren: Veronika and Nathaniel “Nate”. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Grace, daughter-in-law: Judy Bickford, granddaughter: Angie Whetstine and all his brothers and sisters.
