Nichols, Iowa E.P. “Mac” MacKenzie, 95, died Sunday June 20, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following complications of congestive heart failure. Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at the Nichols Christian Church in Nichols. Burial will be in the Nichols Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Memorials may be made to the Nichols First Responders. Ernest Palmer MacKenzie was born February 26, 1915 in Davenport, Iowa the son of William and Nellie Burdick MacKenzie. He attended Davenport High School. On June 4, 1946 he was united in marriage to Loretta Longstreth in Nichols at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Mac had worked in Davenport for several years before moving to the Nichols area where he worked on a farm, later he and Loretta farmed on the family farm for many years. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and playing cards. Survivors include his wife Loretta MacKenzie of Nichols. Two daughters: Mardella (Larry) Brown of Blue Grass and Joan (Randy) Moad of Allison, Iowa. Two sisters: Mary MacKenzie of Arvada, Colorado and Glenne Bowers of Davenport. 2 grandchildren: Tim Brown and Christine Moad and 3 great grandchildren: Nacole, Kaleb and Makenzie. He is also survived by several nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, son: Ernest Keith MacKenzie, two sisters: Mildred and Florence and a brother Van.
