West Branch, Iowa
Florence Larson, 99, formerly of Iowa City and West Branch, passed away on May 20th, 2010, at Hillcrest Home in Geneseo.
She was born July 6, 1910 in West Branch, Iowa, the youngest of seven children of William and Edna Hicks Michener. All of her siblings preceded her in death.
She married William Larson on July 17, 1937, in Iowa City, Iowa. They had two children, Terry and Linda. Terry and his wife Karen reside in Cambridge, Illinois and Linda in Colchester, Connecticut. The Larsons lived in Davenport prior to moving back to West Branch where they farmed for many years. In 1963 they moved to Iowa City where Florence was employed in the physical therapy department at Mercy Hospital. Florence loved her work and was known for her caring and compassionate manner. She was a true caregiver in every sense of the word. After retirement the Larsons moved to Phoenix for 18 years prior to returning Iowa City to be closer to family. Florence’s greatest joy and love was her family whom she always put first. She lived independently until age 97 when a fall necessitated the move to Hillcrest.
She will be sadly missed by family and friends. There will be no services. Burial will be in the West Branch Cemetery where she’ll join her husband of 61 years and most of her family and friends. Memorial donations may be made to Hillcrest Home 14688 Highway 82, Geneseo, IL 61254
or the Geneseo Humane Society.
