Larry G. Armey, 80, passed away Thursday, July 27, 2017 at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty.
Funeral service will be held 10 A.M. Monday, July 31, 2017 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Visitation will be 2 to 5 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Overman Cemetery, Atalissa. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com. Memorials may be made to Atalissa Fire Department. A luncheon will be held at the Atalissa Fire Station immediately following the graveside service.
Larry was born July 13, 1937 in Cando, North Dakota the son of Glenn F. and Marion L. (Gutenschlage) Armey. He attended Cando High School. Larry had served in the Army and Navy. On December 29, 1964 he was united in marriage to Patty Fern Buck in Illinois. For over 30 years he had worked in law enforcement; serving as Chief of Police in Atalissa, West Liberty Police Department and as a jailer for the Muscatine County Sheriff's Department.
He was a member of the Atalissa Church of Christ, Masonic Lodge, was an ordained minister, enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Patty of Atalissa. 7 children: James (Tracy) Buck of Muscatine, Glenn (Annette) Armey of Dallas, Texas, Bill (Carolyn) Pace of Atalissa, John Armey of Florida, Richard (Karlina) Armey of Illinois City, IL, Patty (Tim) Maxwell of Moscow, and Robert Armey of Atalissa, 21 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Three brothers: Richard Armey, Charles Armey, James Armey, two sisters: Glenda Thomas and Edith Thomas. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Winifred and brother Gordon.
