West Branch, Iowa William Lewis Maske, 86, passed away Friday, June 23, 2017. Funeral service will be held 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Visitation will be 5 to 8 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the West Branch Cemetery. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com. William was born January 10, 1931 in Johnson County the son of Lewis Maske and Cora Miller Maske. He graduated from City High School, Iowa City in 1949. On April 25, 1953 he was united in marriage to Rosemary A. Langenberg at Zion Lutheran Church in Iowa City. Bill purchased the DX station formerly owned by C.A. Rummells and operated it for several years. He then purchased a dump truck, and shortly thereafter established William Maske Trucking. Bill’s son, Lawrence joined him in 1972. Bill retired in 2006 after forty-eight years of hauling. He was known for having the cleanest trucks around. Bill and Rosemary traveled a lot, visiting Canada, Alaska, Hawaii and most of the lower forty-eight states. For several years they wintered in Arizona. They also took two cruises, to Alaska and the Panama Canal. Bill enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing cards and antique tractor pulls. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball fan. Bill was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife Rosemary of West Branch; four children and their families: Gary (Julie) Maske of Deep River, Iowa and their children, Anna, Danny, Ben (Stephanie), John, Sam and Rachel; Lawrence (Joan) Maske of West Branch and their children, Elizabeth (Brian) Hagedorn, Abigail, and Hannah; Marian (Kerry) Griebenow of New London, Wisconsin; and Diane (Mohamed) Hamdan of Madison, Wisconsin and their children Jamila, Tarek and Maya. Bill is also survived by brother James of Tulsa, Oklahoma; brother Paul of Iowa City; and sister Marilyn Perkins of West Branch.
