Obituary of Wanda Elder

Wanda M. Elder, 91, died Wednesday July 15, 2009 at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Nichols. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 8 P.M. at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial will be in the Nichols Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Nichols United Methodist Church.
Wanda was born December 5, 1917 in Mondamin, Iowa the daughter of William Ray and Retta Hagerman Morford. She was a member of the Class of 1935 of West Liberty High School. On July 5, 1935 she was united in marriage to Robert Elder in Columbus Jct. The couple farmed in the Nichols area all their lives. She later worked at the University of Iowa in the Memorial Union and later in the Office of the Dietary Department until her retirement.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and was a Sunday School Teacher for many years. She was a 4-H leader, member of the Royal Neighbors of America and served as a Hospice volunteer. Wanda enjoyed crossword puzzles, and playing BINGO at the Simpson Home. Her family, family reunions and church were very important.
Survivors include three children: Jerry (Sharon) Elder of Iowa City, Linda (Tom) Pierson of Eldora and Mark (Marsha) Elder of Nichols. 10 Grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. One sister: Grace Mordica of Apache Jct, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and two brothers.
