Helen M. Simmons, 92, of Iowa City formerly of West Branch died March 15, 2010 Mercy Hospital Hospice, Iowa City Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. Thursday March 18, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church in Iowa City. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to services at the church. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in the Springdale Cemetery, rural West Branch. Memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice or First Presbyterian Church. Helen was born May 11, 1917 in Springdale Township, Cedar County, Iowa the daughter of Fred and Clara Pearson Hinkhouse. She was a graduate of Springdale High School. She was united in marriage to Anders Mather and later Ralph Simmons. She had been employed as a church secretary and a medical secretary. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Iowa City, was a volunteer at Mercy Hospital, member of Voices of Experience, TTT and PEO. She was an avid golfer, enjoyed playing bridge and music was a very important part of her life. Survivors: 1 son, Kenneth (Janice) Mather of West Liberty. 3 grandsons: Randy (Tammy) Mather of West Liberty, Alan (Xann) Mather of West Liberty and Mike (Sherma) Mather of Richmond, Virginia. 5 great grandchildren: Amanda, Josh, Kelzi, Kiersen, and Keaton. 2 Sisters-in-law, Doris Hinkhouse of West Branch, and Elma Hinkhouse, of Urbana, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clara and Fred Hinkhouse, Husband, Ralph Simmons, 2 brothers, William and Herb Hinkhouse and 1 sister, Dorothy Towell
