Gilbert J. "Gib" Parizek, 88, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City surrounded by his family.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at the West Liberty Community Center. Visitation will be Monday 4 to 7 P.M. at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial will be at North Prairie Cemetery in West Liberty. Condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com. Memorials may be made to West Liberty Ambulance.
Gib was born August 23, 1927 at the farm north of West Liberty, the son of Joseph and Myrtle (Ball) Parizek. He was a graduate of West Liberty High School. He served in the Army Air Corps as an air control tower operator. In 1952, he married Eva Eden in Lone Tree and later divorced. On February 15, 1969 he was united in marriage to Joyce Rossmann in West Liberty.
He was a farmer in the West Liberty area and later was the maintenance supervisor at West Liberty Foods for 20 years until his retirement.
He was a member of the Mansell Phillips American Legion Post #509, enjoyed watching sports, especially football and the Hawkeyes, socializing, camping and traveling around the United States, making it to all but two states. After his retirement, he and Joyce spent 17 winters in Texas.
Survivors include four sons: Steve (Deb) Parizek, Kirt Parizek (and his friend Patsy), Mike (Tracy) Parizek and Tim (Jaime) Parizek all of West Liberty; grandchildren: Jessica Parizek, Lucas (Jill) Parizek, Ashley (Bernard) Gatlin, Brent Parizek, Riley Parizek, Emma Parizek, Tony (Veronica) Clark, Vic Clark, and Cody (Judy) Krenz and great grandchildren: Ava and Cora Gatlin, Treyden and Amzie Parizek, Gage, Blake, and Cache Clark, and Eliana Krenz. Brother: Jerry Parizek of Oklahoma and a sister JoAnn Burton of Iowa City. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce in 2014, parents, brothers LeRoy and James and grandson Mitch.
