Life Legacy Solon, Iowa Norbert C. "Mike" Michel, 88, formerly of Iowa City and West Liberty passed away Saturday December 26, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral mass will be held 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hills, Iowa. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty with a Christian Wake service at 7 P.M. Burial with military honors will be held in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, rural Hills. Memorials may be made to West Liberty Fire and Rescue Unit. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com. Norbert was born February 21, 1927 in Iowa City the son of Walter and Agnes (Rummelhart) Michel. He was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Iowa City. On April 7, 1956 he was united in marriage to Marlovene Vincent in Iowa City. Mike had worked at Meyers Motor, Hartwig Motors and Breese Napa Auto Parts. He was a member of the American Legion, enjoyed flowers, gardening and was always barefoot. Mike was a die-hard New York Yankee's and Oakland Raiders fan. Survivors include two sons: Phillip (Marci) Michel of Solon and Jack (Sharon) Michel of Coralville, two grandchildren: CJ and Hailee, and a sister Mary Jean Kessler of Iowa City. He was preceded in death by his wife Marly, and two brothers Donald and Richard.
