Carol Jean Hills, 67, died Sunday September 8, 2013 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Thursday, September 12, 2013 at the West Branch United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Wednesday 4 to 8 P.M. at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Burial will be in the West Branch Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established. Carol was born July 25, 1946 in Cedar County, the daughter of William and Marguerite Taylor Ohrt. She was a graduate of West Branch High School in 1964. On August 1, 1964 she was united in marriage to Ronald Hills at the United Methodist Church in West Branch. She had been a stay home mom most of her life working several part time jobs over the years.
She was a member of the West Branch United Methodist Church where she had held several positions. A member of West Branch Booster Club for many years, serving as president for several years. Coached Little League Baseball, served as a Cub Scout Leader and was instrumental in the Operation Desert Storm Support Group. Most importantly she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and had a love of country music. She enjoyed going to the Station Inn, Nashville, Tennessee listening to country swing music where she was known as “Carol the Cookie Lady” and attending The Grand Ole Opry.
She is survived by her husband Ronald of West Branch. four children: Curtiss Hills of Lady Lake, Florida, Douglas (Rachel) Hills of Iowa City, Matthew (Jeanna) Hills of West Branch and Dustin Hills of Iowa City. 12 grandchildren: Cody, Dalton, Taylor, Courtney, Trevor, Jordan, Jacob, Teagin, Austin, Mattie, Gavin and Nathan. sister: Sandy (Larry) Bell of West Branch. She was preceded in death by her parents, step father William Fogo, Sister Nancy Johnson and brother Robert Ohrt
