Marie E. (Weiss) March, 90, of Atalissa, Iowa died at 6:15 p.m. Friday, January 22, 2010 ,at Lakeland Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, Effingham, IL.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p. m. Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham, IL. Also visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, January 29, 2010 at Henderson-Barker Funeral Home, West Liberty, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church, Atalissa, Iowa, with Reverend Lynn Thiede officiating, and with visitation one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.
Then also funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home, Earlville, Iowa, with Rev. Thiede officiating, with visitation one hour prior to the services at the funeral home on Saturday, followed by burial in Fairview Cemetery, Earlville, Iowa. .
Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church, Atalissa, Iowa or to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Effingham, IL.
Marie was born April 19, 1919 in rural Muscatine County, Iowa the daughter of George W. and Rosa B. (Marolf) Weiss. She was a graduate of West Liberty High School, West Liberty, Iowa and Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa. She taught school several years at the Lutheran Homes Orphanage, Muscatine, Iowa and at the public school in Earlville, Iowa. She was united in marriage with Clarence J. March of Earlville, Iowa on October 8, 1947 at Zion Lutheran Church, Atalissa, Iowa. Then she became a homemaker, raising a family. She was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church, Atalissa, Iowa and also attended St. John’s Lutheran Church, Effingham, IL. Her husband preceded her in death in 1997.
Survivors include her four daughters, Waneta March and Ruth (husband, Rev. Theodore) Gall both of Effingham, Edith (husband, Jerry) Morris of Peoria, IL and Wilma (husband, Gary) Van Roekel of Corsica, SD; her six grandchildren, Sean March, Kyle March, Corey (wife, Samantha) March, and Timothy Gall all of Effingham, IL; Katie (Van Roekel)(husband, Dick) Harreld of Kasson, MN; Mitch Van Roekel of Corsica, SD; her two great-grandchildren, Aurora March of Effingham, IL and Marie Harreld of Kasson, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence March; sister, Hilda Weiss; three infant siblings; and three infant grandchildren.
