I new Niko as a man who, like Jacob, would wrestle with God. His competitive spirit and Marine culturization was a difficult mix to bring to the Religious Society of Friends, but it was a struggle that was well worth the effort. I enjoyed his singing in the chior and the energy he put into every program in which he participated at West Branch Friends Church.

Niko cared for my mom. If one needs to have a loved one in a care center, may they be so fortunate to have them cared for someone like Niko. His caring and competence were deep and wide.

The news of Niko's passing was disappointing. It is apparent from my memories and from what others have written that he will always be remembered for his great character. I remember well the parties your family threw after little league baseball season. It was very cool to listen to Niko share his musical talent around the bonfire!! Our thoughts are with your family. Dear Gwen and family: I not only worked with Niko but he taught me what it should be like to have a career you should always love, enjoy, and take and give a part of you everyday. He taught me as well that everyday is wonderful and to live it that way regardless fo what was going on around you. To find happiness in every thing in this world. I will miss his smile, joking, and singing. My thought and prayers be with you and the family. Also everyday to find the happiness that he sent into this world, I know everyday soon you will see a part of him live on. Take one day at a time and remember it is wonderful even if everything around you is not at this time.

My sincerest sympathy to Nico's family. I have taught at Iowa City Rehab for many years, and Nico was always respectful, fun, and even an educator to the students. He will be greatly missed. He was so proud of his family and heritage and taught the students about his plants outside. I hope your happy memories comfort you and your family. Margaret M. Hyndman, MSN, RN-BC, BA. My heart was saddened when I heard of Niko’s passing. Niko was blessed with being able to spread joy and happiness to everyone around him. I will never forget his singing and probably most of all, his laughter. Niko is a truly amazing man and I am proud to have known him, he defiantly lived a life worth celebrating. Gwen, Tony, Malia, Family and Friends, I know this is a time of sadness but he sure did leave us with some wonderful memories, and in those memories he will live on within us forever.

I am most sad to hear of Niko's passing. I worked with Niko at Iowa City Rehabilitation and enjoyed him as a co-worker. He was extremely supportive of me during my employment there and will always remember his encouragement. We enjoyed working together had had some heartfelt talks. We even sang together at times! I will remember him as a most passonate man who was a true philanthropist who loved the arts and nature. But most of all a man of great compassion and kindness. The world lost a great person.

God Bless his family at this very difficult time. A caring man who was genuinely a pleasure to be around. I always remember him from sporting events when we were in school, and I can't remember very many he did not attend. First to smile, and seemingly endless positive remarks, he was definately a man with a passion and zest for life. Rest in peace and thank you for the memories.
