Wayne Rummells, 81, died on Monday June 22, 2009 at his home in West Branch.
Services will be at 11:00AM on Friday, June 26, 2009 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00PM on Thursday, June 25, 2009 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the West Branch Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.
Wayne was born the son of Clifford “Stub” and Marjorie Ellyson Rummells on October 2, 1927 in West Branch. He graduated from West Branch High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1947 and from 1950-1951 during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Doris Walenta in June of 1949, she passed away in 1992.
Wayne was a greenskeeper at the Fox Run Golf & Country Club in West Branch from 1968 until 1991. He was a school bus driver for 40 years from 1962 until 2002. Wayne also kept the clock for West Branch football games for 35 years. He was a member of the West Branch Fire Department for 14 years and the American Legion Post 514. Wayne was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. He enjoyed cheering for the West Branch Bears from his deck on the south end zone of the football field.
He is survived by his daughter: Cyndi (Bonifacio) Chacon of West Branch and grandchilden: Sadie Chacon and Sasha (Phil) Johnson; his son Larry (Susan) Rummells of West Branch and grandchildren: Maggie Rummells and Jack Rummells; his twin brother: Warren “Jake” Rummells of West Branch; and his special friend and companion: Brenda Kunkel of West Branch and her son Brad (Julie) Kunkel and her grandchildren: Sam and Ben.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Doris Rummells and brother: Don Rummells.
