Doris Lang, 100, of West Branch, formerly of Tipton, passed away Monday, May 25 at Mercy Hospital.
The daughter of Jess and Celia Wineke, she was born January 9, 1915 in rural Cedar County. She graduated from West Branch High School and moved to Tipton where she worked at a local cafe. She married Francis Lang on Sept.26, 1936 at The Little Brown Church in Nashua. Her entire married life was spent in Tipton raising her four children.
Mrs. Lang was an active member of the Tipton Federated Garden Club for over 40 years, was also a life member, and was a co-leader of the junior garden club. She loved everything that had to do with flowers and gardening. She and her husband also operated a game bird farm for over 20 years raising waterfowl, pheasants, quail, and chickens. In her spare time she enjoyed volunteering, doing creative writing and working on genealogy. She was very much interested in finding out all she could about her family history.
Doris is survived by a daughter, Karen (Doug) Price, Iowa City; her sons, Robert, San Jose, Calif. and Larry, Cedar Rapids; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Lang, Tipton; grandchildren, Jim, Vanessa, Beth, Michelle, and Mike; many great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters and brothers; her husband; a son, John Lang; a grandson, Tim Lang; and a daughter-in-law Karen (Blayney) Lang.
Mrs. Lang had spent the last three years at Crestview Nursing and Rehab in West Branch and had many friends there.
Mrs. Lang has donated her body to the University of Iowa College of Medicine's Deeded Body Program. Private family graveside services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in the West Branch Cemetery.
