Dorothy Nadine was born on February 24, 1933 in Columbus City, Iowa, daughter of Leslie and Gloris (Fisher) Lowe. On August 8, 1948 she was united in marriage to Mervin Mills in Nichols. She worked in healthcare most of her life, beginning at Muscatine General Hospital in Labor and Delivery where she loved getting to care for the newborn babies. After raising five children of her own, she returned to school earning her LPN certification and continuing her work at Lone Tree Health Care Center and Lutheran Homes in Muscatine.
Dort was an avid reader and had accumulated a very large collection of books which she loved loaning out to anyone who wanted to read them. Her biggest joy however was when everyone would get together for family gatherings. She loved to just sit and listen to her kids reminiscing about growing up together on the farm.
She is survived by her children: four sons, Dan Mills of Itasca, Ill., Doug and Dave (Kim) Mills all of Nichols, Dick Mills of Longmont, Colo.; a daughter, Dee (Scott) McDonald of Abilene, Tx.; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Merv, April 3, 2022, two daughter-in-laws Renee and Deb, grandson Austin and her parents and siblings.
