Obituary of David Leon Spilger
David Leon Spilger, 67, passed away Friday, February 16, 2024 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday February 20, 2024 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home, West Liberty. Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty. Immediately following the graveside service everyone is invited to share in a luncheon to be held at the Atalissa Fire Station.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Atalissa Fire Department.
David was born July 16, 1956 in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Leland and Loretta (Volkman) Spilger. He was a graduate of West Liberty High School in 1975 and attended Muscatine Community College. David was united in marriage to Amy Harrington and together they had two children Christopher and Lydia, they later divorced.
Dave had been employed with Ervin’s in Wilton as a plumber for 35 years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Atalissa and Atalissa Fire Department since 2010. He was a person who would always put others first, being the first to help and contribute as needed. Dave enjoyed fishing and was a collector of John Deere toy tractors (Ertl) and equipment, and using his John Deere equipment for his mowing business.
Survivors include his two children: Christopher David Spilger of Milan, Illinois and Lydia Faye (Brad) Clark of Fruitland, grandchildren: Kynedi Spilger, Colin Spilger, Lylia Clark and Lochlan Spilger. His mother: Loretta and two brothers: Dan (Melissa) Spilger and Tim Spilger all of Atalissa as well as two nieces Jennifer, Katheryn and his significant other Leigh Ann Thomsen of Moscow. He was preceded in death by his father Leland in 2020.
