Ethel M. Burnett, 93, died Tuesday August 26, 2014 at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Friday August 29, 2014 at the West Liberty United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 5 to 8 P.M. at the West Liberty United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com. A memorial fund has been established. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty is in charge of arrangements.
Ethel Mae was born September 3, 1920 near West Liberty the daughter of Earl and Della Kramer Smith. She was a graduate of Nichols High School in 1938. On November 7, 1944 she was united in marriage to Marion Burnett in Kansas City, Kansas. She and her husband farmed in the area for many years.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, U.M.W. and Sunday School Teacher, Floriculture Society, American Legion Auxiliary Post #509, Farm Bureau Women, 4 H Leader, Get Together Club in Atalissa, served as a volunteer grandmother in the Elementary School for 11 years and helped as a quilting volunteer at the Simpson Memorial Home. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed sewing.
She is survived by two children: Steven (Edie) Burnett of Atalissa, and Diane (John) Leicht of Dubuque, Iowa. 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and two brothers Robert Smith of West Liberty and Kenneth Smith of West Liberty. She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers Frank, Wayne and Rodney, and a sister Betty Weinard.
