Bev, Ed & family,
We received your sad news today in the mail. The biggest blessing of having moved from West Branch, IA, is the gift of now having Ed's writings to read -- if Rusty should have written a book, Ed definitely should.
Your entire treasured family is in our hearts, our thoughts, and our prayers, and you have our deepest sympathy in the loss of your precious son, brother, uncle, friend ("Rusty" to us).
Remember when he collected hats as a teenager? Grant contributed his NPS "Smokey Bear" hat to Rusty's collection (can't remember if it was a winter felt or summer straw -- so many years ago now...)
The greatest comfort we have in the time of loss is in knowing that death does not have the last word -- JESUS does!
What Precious Reunions Await Us In Heaven...
"Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the GOD OF ALL COMFORT." -- II Corinthians 1:3
We love what Henry Van Dyke wrote:
I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.
Then someone at my side says: "There, she is gone!"
Gone where? Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says: "There, she is gone!", there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout:
"HERE SHE COMES!"
And that is dying for those who trust in the Lord.
In our Lord Jesus' Love,
In Love with our Lord Jesus, The Resurrection and The Life,
Your "Forever Friends" from Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Michigan

Dear Ed, Bev and family,
I am so sorry for your tremendous loss. May God enfold you in his loving arms as you grieve. I remember your family from my days at WB UMC and remember how involved you were as a family.
Rusty must have been a very talented young man and I'm sure you have many good memories as a family. Hold on to those memories and may they bring a smile to your face at your lowest times.
May you find peace in knowing that he is at home with our heavenly Father and free of earthly pain and suffering.
God Bless You All.

I remember hanging out with Rusty and Terry Stotler when we were growing up. Riding Terry's mini bike, playing in the hey loft. Minstrels, Marching band, School plays and many more. A terrible lost but I know he's back with our Father in Heaven and at peace. We will all be together again someday. Until then rest in peace and God bless the Spencer family. Love y'all! Take care
